New Delhi:
PrimeMinister Narendra Modi and BJP President JP Nadda were given permission by the NDA on Thursday to select the ruling bloc’s vice presidential nominee.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Thursday gave Prime Minister Narendra Modi and JP Nadda, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the authority to select the ruling bloc’s nominee for the election, accelerating the race for the vice presidential position in India.
Following a gathering of important BJP leaders and their supporters at the Parliament complex where the decision was made, Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju declared on Thursday that it was a unanimous decision.
The conference was led by Union Minister Rajnath Singh and attended by Lalan Singh of the Amit Shah JD(U), Shrikant Shinde of the Shiv Sena, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu of the TDP, and Chirag Paswan of the LJP (Ram Vilas).
Following Jagdeep Dhankhar’s abrupt resignation on July 21 due to health concerns, the vice president position is still unfilled. Since then, there have been other names put forth as potential candidates for the position, making the question of who India’s next vice president will be a frequent one.
Even though they are unverified and not based on reliable sources, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and even VK Saxena are among the names that have emerged for the NDA contest to the position.
